The Schneider Electric 140NOE77111 is a Modicon Quantum Ethernet TCP/IP option module that gives a Quantum CPU a 10/100 Mb copper port plus an embedded FactoryCast web server. It is one of the most replaced parts in legacy Quantum installations, because plants that started on Modbus Plus or serial Modbus inevitably move SCADA traffic to Ethernet, and the NOE module is the bolt-on path to do that without changing the CPU. This page covers the verified specifications, the differences between the 140NOE77100, 77101, 77110, and 77111 variants, and the modules typically swapped together when the network upgrade is done.
Confirm the firmware version printed on the side of the unit. Newer firmware (Exec ROM 4.x and later) supports global data and time sync features that older 2.x firmware does not, and Unity Pro projects sometimes require the newer firmware for full FactoryCast configuration.
| Model | Port | FactoryCast | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 140NOE77100 | 10 Mb AUI / 10BASE-T | No | Earliest NOE, legacy installations only |
| 140NOE77101 | 10/100 Mb RJ45 | No | Standard Ethernet TCP/IP, no embedded web |
| 140NOE77110 | 10 Mb AUI / 10BASE-T | Yes | FactoryCast over 10 Mb, predecessor of 77111 |
| 140NOE77111 | 10/100 Mb RJ45 | Yes | The current standard, FactoryCast on Fast Ethernet |
The most common confusion is between the 140NOE77101 and the 140NOE77111. They look similar and are pin-compatible on the rack, but the 77101 has no FactoryCast web server. If a project depends on embedded web pages, SOAP services, or web-based diagnostics, the 77111 is the only option. For pure Modbus TCP I/O scanning without web access, the 77101 is sufficient and slightly cheaper.
An NOE77111 retrofit usually involves a few additional parts, and Rabwellplc stocks the matching modules:
Rabwellplc inspects every Quantum NOE module, records the firmware revision and date code, and ships from US stock so a failed Ethernet module does not stall a SCADA upgrade. The catalog also covers the rest of the Quantum rack — CPUs, I/O, backplanes, and the matching Schneider Modicon Quantum range — which is useful when the same outage exposes other aging modules in the same cabinet.

What is the difference between the 140NOE77101 and the 140NOE77111?
Both deliver 10/100 Mb Modbus TCP, but only the 140NOE77111 includes the FactoryCast embedded web server, SOAP/XML services, and configurable web pages. If the project needs web-based dashboards or embedded HMI, choose the 77111.
Does the 140NOE77111 work with Unity Pro / EcoStruxure Control Expert?
Yes. The module is supported by Unity Pro and its successor Control Expert. Verify the Exec ROM firmware version against the project requirements; older firmware may need a field update for full FactoryCast support.
Can the 140NOE77111 act as a Modbus TCP master and slave at the same time?
Yes. The module operates as both server (slave) and client (master) for Modbus TCP, allowing the Quantum CPU to read remote I/O while still answering SCADA polls. Verify the connection limits in the firmware notes for your revision.
Is the 140NOE77111 compatible with Modicon M340 or M580?
No. The 140NOE form factor is specific to the Quantum 140 XBP backplane. M340 uses BMXNOE and BMXNOC modules, while M580 has Ethernet built into the CPU and uses BMENOC option modules.
How many Modbus TCP connections does the 140NOE77111 support?
Up to 64 simultaneous Modbus TCP connections, depending on firmware revision. For high-density polling environments, plan the connection budget across NOE modules early in the design.
